Ketika memasuki usia 3–5 tahun, umumnya anak sudah memperoleh ribuan kosakata, pengetahuan tata bahasa dan fonologi, serta aturan penggunaan bahasa dalam berbagai situasi sosial (Rahmadhani, 2020). Pada rentang usia ini, anak mulai memiliki ketertarikan untuk mempelajari bahasa.
Dalam ranah morfologi, anak-anak cenderung lebih banyak memperoleh kata benda daripada jenis kata lainnya (Rahmadhani, 2020). Anak-anak juga cenderung memperoleh kata dengan imbuhan akhir (sufiks) daripada kata dengan imbuhan awal (prefiks). Meskipun demikian, anak akan lebih banyak memperoleh proses morfologis seiring dengan tumbuh kembangnya. Selain itu, ketika memasuki pemerolehan sintaksis, anak mulai bisa menggabungkan dua kata atau lebih (Ulfa, 2017). Anak menjadi lebih cepat dalam mempelajari kosakata baru dan bisa mengomunikasikan tuturannya dengan maksud tertentu.
Pemerolehan bahasa pada anak menjadi bukti yang luar biasa dari kemampuan otak manusia untuk mengolah informasi yang kompleks sejak usia dini. Bahasa diperoleh dari hasil kombinasi faktor bawaan lahir dan interaksi lingkungan sekitar.
