Namun, perbandingan ini bukan untuk merendahkan martabat bahasa Indonesia, melainkan membangkitkan semangat kita dalam memperkaya kosakata bahasa Indonesia.
Untuk memperkaya kosakata bahasa Indonesia, kita juga dapat berkontribusi dengan mengirimkan usulan kosakata melalui laman kbbi.kemdikbud.go.id. Lalu, sebenarnya apa hal yang fundamental dalam mengusulkan sebuah kata untuk dimasukkan ke KBBI? Menurut saya, hal paling fundamental adalah linguistic evidence atau bukti pemakaian bahasa.
Istilah linguistic evidence pertama kali saya dengar pada kelas Perkamusan dan Dokumentasi Bahasa ketika saya menempuh pendidikan di Program Studi Indonesia, Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya, Universitas Indonesia. Istilah ini sebenarnya adalah hal umum dalam linguistik. Namun, pada kelas tersebut, saya baru mengenalnyadari Prof. Mia Lauder, seorang dosen sekaligus pakar linguistik Indonesia. Kebetulan salah satu keluaran pada mata kuliah tersebut adalah membuat kamus.
Prof. Mia menegaskan bahwa pembuatan kamus harus memperhatikan bukti pemakaian bahasa. Bukti pemakaian bahasa didapatkan dengan data bahasa. Bukti tersebut dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode linguistik, salah satunya korpus linguistik. Karena bukti pemakaian bahasa berkaitan dengan data, korpus mempunyai peran penting sebagai metode mengubah data menjadi bukti. Namun, saya tidak akan mengulas korpus linguistik. Yang paling penting adalah penambahan kosakata bahasa Indonesia harus melibatkan bukti pemakaian bahasa.
Beberapa pekan lalu, saya kembali bertemu Prof. Mia secara daring. Beliau menjadi narasumber pada seminar kebahasaan yang dilaksanakan oleh salah satu perguruan tinggi di Gorontalo. Dalam paparannya, beliau menegaskan bahwa penyerapan bahasa daerah ke dalam bahasa Indonesia tidak boleh sembarangan. Misalnya, kata temu diserap dari bahasa Jawa ke dalam bahasa Indonesia karena kata tersebut juga digunakan dalam bahasa lain di beberapa daerah. Ini yang disebut bukti pemakaian bahasa. Oleh karena itu, bukti pemakaian bahasa juga mampu menunjukkan keterwakilan kosakata tertentu dari beberapa bahasa daerah yang diserap ke dalam bahasa Indonesia.
Formula ini tidak hanya berlaku pada kosakata bahasa daerah, tetapi juga kosakata bahasa yang diserap ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Misalnya, kata wibu sudah terdaftar dalam KBBI. Proses tersebut pasti melibatkan bukti pemakaian bahasa. Peran bukti pemakaian bahasa dalam memperkaya kosakata bahasa Indonesia sangat krusial. Kalau tidak ada bukti pemakaian bahasa, sebuah kata tidak serta-merta dapat dimasukkan ke dalam KBBI. Dengan adanya bukti pemakaian bahasa, kosakata yang baru masuk KBBI pun dapat dipertanggungjawabkan melalui data.
Peneliti bahasa yang menghimpun data bahasa dapat memanfaatkan data tersebut untuk diolah menjadi bukti pemakaian bahasa. Namun, tetap hati-hati, tidak semua data yang dijadikan bukti bisa diusulkan untuk masuk ke KBBI. Kata yang dapat diusulkan adalah kata yang terbukti digunakan di beberapa daerah di Indonesia. Misalnya, usulan kata dalam bahasa Gorontalo yang digunakan oleh masyarakat harus terbukti digunakan dalam bahasa-bahasa lain juga. Dengan begitu, bukti pemakaian bahasa tidak boleh hanya mewakili satu bahasa.
Perkembangan teknologi saat ini dapat memudahkan peneliti dalam menemukan bukti pemakaian bahasa. Salah satu yang cukup tren adalah korpus. Korpus mampu menyediakan bukti pemakaian bahasa. Dengan bantuan korpus, peneliti juga mampu menghimpun data dari berbagai bahasa. Dengan demikian, bukti pemakaian bahasa pun dapat dengan mudah ditemukan serta dianalisis.
