Apa Itu Parafrasa?
Parafrasa, menurut Crystal (1985) dalam Kesuma (1988), adalah istilah dalam linguistik untuk hasil atau proses produksi versi-versi alternatif dari kalimat atau teks tanpa mengubah makna. Bisa kita lihat, Crystal menekankan pada makna yang tidak berubah. Di lain sisi, Verhaar (1981) berpendapat bahwa parafrasa merupakan rumusan informasi yang sama dengan bentuk ujaran yang lain. Berbeda dengan Crystal, Verhaar menggunakan informasi, alih-alih makna. Perhatikan contoh berikut.

Dari perbedaan pendapat tersebut, Kesuma menyimpulkan bahwa parafrasa adalah teknik untuk mengungkapkan hal yang sama dengan cara-cara yang berbeda. Kita bisa berpegangan bahwa selama makna–terlepas dari bentuk pasif dan aktifnya–dan informasinya tidak berubah dari yang sebelumnya, berarti kita telah melakukan parafrasa.
Jenis-Jenis Parafrasa
Untuk bisa melakukan parafrasa, kita perlu mengetahui jenis-jenisnya. Barulah setelah itu, parafrasa bisa kita lakukan dengan mudah.
- Parafrasa Ekuivalen
Jenis ini sering pula disebut dengan parafrasa leksikal. Ketika menerapkan parafrasa ini, kita bisa mengganti kata atau frasa dengan bentuk lain yang memiliki relasi sinonimi. Perhatikan contoh berikut.

- Dia merupakan seorang penulis novel.
- Parafrasa Keantoniman Ingkaran
Berbeda dengan parafrasa sebelumnya, keantoniman ingkaran adalah parafrasa dengan menyiratkan bentuk ingkar lain terhadap bentuk sebelumnya yang sudah dingkarkan.
